Corporate Knights notes that the list celebrates “medium sized businesses across Canada (that) are stepping up to the sustainability challenges of today”
We were pleased to see two race participants make the list, with First Capital Realty, ranking 4th and Bentall Kennedy coming in the top 20, at spot 18.
It has been a pleasure to work with both these organizations over the course of the race and the Future40 spot is just another nod to the work that these organizations have been undertaking for years.
First Capital Realty
We were able to catch up with First Capital Realty Inc’s President and CEO at BOMEX Toronto last year, hosted by BOMA Toronto. Adam Paul spoke about our former BOMA Board Chair, Maryanne McDougald’s leadership on the energy efficiency front, and First Capital’s efforts to raise the bar in improving the company’s sustainability profile and leadership in the space.
Bentall Kennedy also earned a spot on the list, and has been at the forefront of sustainability efforts for years. With several properties registered for the race, Bentall Kennedy promotes landlord-tenant partnerships around sustainability with their Forever Green Tenant Engagement Program. Bentall Kennedy also recently released their annual sustainability report which you can read here.
Bentall Kennedy was also part of groundbreaking research on their portfolio, in 2015, based on extensive data. The academic study based on 10 years of Bentall Kennedy portfolio data, showed that “Sustainable buildings experience higher rent, occupancy, renewals and tenant satisfaction"
It’s important to take a moment to celebrate these good news stories and the achievements that race2reduce participants continue to make, in and out of the program. We hope that these stories serve as inspiration for your own sustainability efforts and race2reduce performance!
